Terms
Terms of Service
Last updated · October 7, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Canopy AI for using the Canopy AI app and this website. They are short because the product is simple: you keep your garden records with us, and we give you tools and advice built from them.
1. Who can use Canopy AI
You must be at least 13 years old. By creating an account you confirm that you are, and that the details you give us are accurate. You are responsible for keeping your password private and for what happens under your account.
2. Pre-release software
Canopy AI is in its first release. Features will change, some will be added, and a few may be removed. We will do our best to keep your data safe through those changes, and we recommend exporting records you care about. There may be bugs; please tell us about them at support@getcanopyai.com.
3. Your garden data is yours
Everything you enter (beds, plants, logs, photos, notes, custom plants) belongs to you. You give us permission to store it, sync it between your devices, and process it to run the features you use, and nothing else. We do not sell it, show ads against it, or use your photos to train AI models. Our handling of it is described in the privacy policy. You can delete it all at any time, as described on the account deletion page.
You must have the right to upload what you upload. Do not add content that is unlawful or that infringes someone else’s rights.
4. Gardening advice is advice
Canopy AI produces planting dates, watering plans, harvest estimates, rotation suggestions, and plant identifications. They are built from public horticultural data, weather forecasts, and AI models, and all of those can be wrong for your particular garden. Treat the app’s output as a well-informed starting point, not a guarantee. Weather forecasts are forecasts. A harvest estimate is an estimate. We are not responsible for a lost crop, a frost-bitten seedling, or a plan that did not suit your soil.
Never rely on the app to decide whether a plant is safe to eat, touch, or give to an animal. Plant identification from a photo can be mistaken, and the library’s edibility notes are general. If you are not certain what a plant is, do not eat it.
If the app suggests a pesticide, fertiliser, or other product, read and follow that product’s own label and your local rules. The label wins.
5. The library
The plant library is compiled from public sources and includes photographs from Wikimedia Commons under their Creative Commons or public-domain licences, each credited in the app. You may use the library inside the app for your own gardening. You may not copy it out in bulk, scrape it, or resell it.
6. Fair use
AI features cost us money per request, so each account has a fair-use allowance per day. If you hit it, the feature pauses until the next day. Do not use scripts, bots, or multiple accounts to get around it, try to break into other people’s accounts, or interfere with the service. We can suspend or close an account that does.
7. Price
Your garden, your records and your own watering and feeding programs are free, for as long as you use Canopy AI. Pro, which adds the planning Canopy does for you and the AI features, is a subscription: $39.99 a year or $7.99 a month, shown in your own currency in the app, with a 7-day free trial for a new subscriber. Every new account also has Pro’s planning features open for its first 60 days, with no card needed.
Pro is bought through Google Play and renews automatically until you cancel it in Google Play’s subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; what you have paid for stays open until the end of the period. Refunds follow Google Play’s refund policy. Prices may change; a change applies from your next renewal and Google tells you first. Nothing you entered is ever taken away when a subscription ends: the garden stays yours and stays editable.
8. Ending the agreement
You can end it at any time by deleting your account. We can end it if you break these terms, and we can stop offering the service altogether, in which case we will give reasonable notice and a way to export your data.
9. No warranty, limited liability
The app and website are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the same extent, Canopy AI and its developer are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for anything arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which during pre-release is nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you inside the app before the change takes effect and update the date at the top. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you live somewhere whose law gives you protections that cannot be waived, you keep them.
